Steam Engine Excursions Announced To Attalla, Ala., And Harriman, Tn.

The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM) announced operation of steam locomotive excursions on Saturday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 11, as part of the Norfolk Southern's 21st Century Steam program. 
 
The excursions on Nov. 10 and 11 are steam engine-led trips over Norfolk Southern’s main lines. Ex-Southern Railway 2-8-0 #630 will be the featured locomotive with diesel assistance. The boarding location for all trips will be at the Grand Junction station at 4119 Cromwell Road in Chattanooga. All times shown for these trips are within the Eastern Time Zone.
 
Three types of seating are available for online purchase: Coach, Premium Coach and Observation Lounge.  

  • Coach seats are $85 and inclusive of meal service, please specify breakfast or lunch at time of reservation.
  • Premium Coach seats are $115 and are a limited number inclusive of a continental breakfast, lunch and unlimited refreshments.  
  • Observation Lounge seats are $135 and feature a more intimate viewing area from the back of the train, continental breakfast, lunch and unlimited refreshments.  All seating will be provided in climate-controlled coaches with comfortable seats and large windows. Don’t miss this opportunity to ride a vintage train in many areas long removed from passenger service. 

The excursions are as follows:

Nov. 10 - Chattanooga to Attalla, Ala. – Approximate 9 ½ hour, 188-mile round trip rail excursion departs Grand Junction at 8 a.m. and returns at 5:45 p.m. There is an approximate two-hour layover where passengers can disembark and enjoy the shopping and area entertainment in Attalla.
 
Nov. 11 - Chattanooga to Harriman, Tn.– Approximate 7½ hour, 160-mile round trip rail excursion departs Grand Junction at 8:30 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m.  Passengers stay aboard the train at Harriman.
 
All trains feature full service amenities including restrooms, a commissary car that sells snacks, soft drinks, and light food items.  A gift shop will also be on the trains for those wishing to purchase souvenir items. Tickets for all excursions can be purchased online at tvrail.com or by calling 423 894-8028.

Sobriety Checkpoints Set For May 31

Holiday Schedule Announced For Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority

Four Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority facilities will be closed on Monday, in observance of Memorial Day.  Locations include the Old Dixie Landfill and Convenience Center, McGaughey Chapel Convenience Center, Westside Convenience Center, and the M.L. Chief Magistrate Russell Says Ables Should Have Waited To Sign Warrant For Teen Beer Bust
