Monday, October 22, 2012
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team's senior libero Paula Passmore was named Defensive Player of the Week and Briana Reid was named Freshman of the Week by the Southern Conference Monday afternoon. This is Reid's first weekly honor while it is Passmore's third of the season.

Passmore and Reid helped the Mocs to a 1-1 weekend with a 3-1 win over Davidson Saturday while dropping a 0-3 match to Georgia Southern Sunday evening at Maclellan Gym. UTC is now 10-15 overall and 4-4 in the SoCon, garnering five more wins than all of last season.

Chattanooga is currently sitting in fourth place, just one game out of second place in the SoCon North.

Passmore totaled 48 digs over the weekend, averaging 6.286 digs per set. The senior has now recorded double-digit digs in each match played this season. Her 28 digs against Davidson and 20 digs against Georgia Southern are the 13th and 14th matches this season. The libero has collected 20-or-more digs in a match. Passmore averaged 6.857 digs per set-- .657 points higher than her NCAA-third-best 6.20 digs per set.

Reid was outstanding on offense with 25 kills over the two-match weekend while also tallying 19 digs against the Wildcats and Eagles. Reid recorded her second career double-double Saturday afternoon against Davidson with 12 kills and 12 digs. The outside hitter's 12 kills against Davidson and 13 kills against Georgia Southern marks the first time she has recorded double-digit kills in back-to-back matches over a single weekend. Reid has now collected double-digit kills in her past three matches, along with coming up with 39 digs in her past three matches.

The Mocs travel to Greenville, S.C., Saturday for a 2 p.m. match with the Furman Paladins. UTC plays the single match over the weekend before traveling to Birmingham, Ala., Tuesday for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Samford Bulldogs.

Scandals At Home And Abroad

Since my hip operation and time in recovery, I have tried to set aside things that are insignificant to me and to average Americans. Don't get me wrong here. What these people are doing (Bengahzi) is despicable be they left or right wing, and they have been doing it (both sides) for a long time. But the dirty deeds themselves carry little weight as to what they mean to you or me. ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: 50 Facts About Our Bodies

Maybe 20 years ago I became entranced by a book called “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made.” It was co-authored by a surgeon, Paul Brand, and a Christian writer, Phillip Yancey, and gave one specific after another about the human body and how only God could have created such a miraculous machine. Today the book is a classic and I have marveled ever since over how unbelievable human ... (click for more)
