Crombies Funeral Home And Mortuary Now Open For Ghost Hunts

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Crombie's Funeral Home and Mortuary has opened its doors to the public. After being closed for many years, and even in danger of being demolished, the old abandoned building is now taking reservations for overnight ghost hunts.

Once a Baptist Goodwill Center built in 1924, the building at 2201 Broad St. served as a center to provide physical and spiritual needs of the community. Then, in 1958, four siblings, Willis, John, Ester, and Maria Crombie moved their funeral and mortuary business from their private residence, at the corner of Williams Street and 21st Street, into the building after the Baptist Goodwill center relocated. Little is known about Maria Crombie, but Ester Crombie married and left the family business to pursue a career in nursing in Mississippi, Knoxville, and Chattanooga as a psychiatric nurse at Moccasin Bend Mental Health Hospital and as a nursing teacher at Howard High School.  Following the deaths of Willis in 1969, and John in 1983, the two brothers' wives, Helen and Mattie operated the funeral home until their deaths in 2000 and 1998, respectively.

The funeral home was combined with Pinkard, becoming Crombie-Pinkard, then eventually Pinkard-Mee Funeral Home once they moved into a new, larger building in the early 2000's.

Local paranormal research team, Mystique Paranormal Research Society, has been working closely with the building's current owner to conduct private investigations. The team has gathered much evidence, proven through scientific research, including video, audio, and photography that verifies that Crombie's Funeral Home and Mortuary does have paranormal activity and is officially classified as "Haunted."

Mystique Paranormal Research Society was founded in 2011. It is the only group in the Chattanooga area who investigates strictly on a scientific basis, without the use of psychics and/or sensitives.  For more information about MPRS, please visit www.mystiqueparanormal.com

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem.
