9 Soddy Daisy Football Players To Sit Out Friday Night Due To Fight

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Nine Soddy Daisy High School football players will have to sit out Friday night's game at Warren County because of their involvement in a fight during the home contest against McMinn County last Friday night.

The scuffle broke out shortly before halftime at the end of a punt play.

Five McMinn players and two Soddy Daisy players were ejected from the game.

Soddy Daisy Principal John Maynard said, "It was not something that you like to see happen - even though it's something you see every third or fourth play in the pros.

You can't do it in high school though."

He said there was some jawing and pushing between players near the McMinn bench around the 15-yard-line. Some players came off the bench and joined in the fray that involved some grabbing and tackling. It all came as the band was starting to take the field.

Principal Maynard said both schools and the TSSAA reviewed the film of the scuffle on Monday. He said it was hard to tell from the video who started it.

He said, "The referees did a good job getting it in control and so did the coaches."

This was their 21st comeback win of the season. With Washington's loss to the Phillies Monday, the Braves have ... (click for more)

Randy Smith: The New SoCon: It Is What It Is

About 10 years ago I first heard the phrase, “It is what it is.” I believe it was former Tennessee quarterback Casey Clausen who used it a lot, especially when talking about a Volunteer loss. Obviously, he wasn’t the first person to use it, and he certainly won’t be the last. I believe it means, “don’t put too much into it. Or don’t place too much emphasis on it”; whatever ... Who's Driving The Bessie Smith Strut Into The Ground?

As the annual Riverbend Festival has come to a close I seem to be at odds with one particular thing and no it has nothing to do with seeing CeeLo’s rear-end. That one thing is the Bessie Smith Strut and the lack of what it used to be. It is just my opinion but there seems to be a driving force of setting the event up for failure and for what?    The event survived a ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: Me & The Ficus Benjamina

I got back from my two-week vacation at the Mayo Clinic "spa" late Saturday night and spent most of the day in the bed yesterday, nursing my way through the latest round of infections. All day long I was pretty miserable and, as I am wont to do with things turn downwards, look for something funny to ease my pain and anguish. So the Lord reminded me of my famous bout ...
