Three East Ridge Teams Win First-Round Playoff Games In Scenic City Youth Football

Three East Ridge teams advanced to the second round of the Scenic City Youth Football League playoffs with wins Saturday.

The No. 1 seed 12-under East Ridge Pioneers defeated Harrison 44-0, the No. 2 seed 8-under East Ridge Pioneers extended their winning streak to 31 games with a 19-6 win over Hixson and the No. 2 seed 12-under East Ridge Mustangs defeated the Boynton Falcons 26-0.

Stefon Walker ignited the 12-under Pioneers with scoring runs of 45, 30, 65 and 42 yards.

Korey Chitwood had an 8-yard scoring run, Blake Wright a 6-yard TD run and Nolan Letzgus scored from 42 yards out.


"The offensive line did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage," said Coach Kevin Wright.

The veteran youth coach said the Pioneers swarming defense again was again impressive by chalking up another shutout.

The 12-under Pioneers are off this week and will play the winner of this week's Boynton Bears and the East Ridge Mustangs at noon Nov. 3 at East Ridge. The Bears and Mustangs play Saturday at noon at Heritage High.

Carson Yates had a big day for the 8-under Pioneers with 136 yards rushing and two TDs.

Quarterback Mason Long added 63 yards on the ground and a TD, Kobe Thomas added 56 yards rushing and Brodie Swader 41 yards.

Kye Songer and Dacorian Jones-Montgomery again were the stars of the Pioneers defense.

The Mustangs 12s scored on a 47-yard TD pass from Austin Chastain to Jordan "Big Bird" Sims and a 39-yard TD pass from Chastain to Jordan Hughely.

DeVonte Tipton contributed scoring runs of , 11, 27 and 48 yards.

The East Ridge Pioneers 12-under squad is currently ranked No. 4 in this week's National Prep & Youth Football Association Tennessee Top 10 poll. The East Ridge Pioneers 8-under are ranked No. 5 in the same poll.
 
Other Chattanooga area teams ranked in the NPYFA poll are 6-under Signal Mountain (No. 8); 7-under East Hamilton (No. 1) and Dayton (No. 7); 8-under Boynton Patriots (No. 10); 9-under Rossville (No. 4) and East Hamilton (No. 8) and 10-under Hixson (No. 1).
