NormalPalooza Features Demonstrations By Artist Cessna Decosimo

Schoolhouse Rock Performer Headlines Nov. 10 Festival

Friday, November 02, 2012

This year's NormalPalooza festival will feature a live, interactive art presentation by noted sculptor Cessna Decosimo.  The Saturday, Nov. 10, community festival will begin at 10 a.m. at the the Normal Park Upper School on the corner of N. Dallas and Mississippi Avenue.   Families will hear music of the legendary composer of Schoolhouse Rock, as Bob Dorough takes the main stage to celebrate kids, families and learning as a part of a community festival and friendraiser supporting the award-winning Chattanooga school.

NormalPalooza will include an art market, a children's activity area, an extreme sports zone and music, games and activities for everyone.  A wide selection of local food truck vendors are participating, including GiGi's Cupcakes, Jalapeno Corndog, Monkey Town Donuts, Good Dog, Southern Burger, Famous Naters, Flippy's BBQ, Lupi's Pizza and Rita's Italian Ice.

The extreme sports zone includes the Spider Jump as well as Cross-fit Work Outs, obstacle courses, a human Foosball Competition and middle-school field activities.  One of the highlights of the day will be the first annual Normalpalooza Grown-Up Kickball Tourney.  To register a team, contact Jenn Lehman at riverlilie@yahoo.com.

Festival co-chair Bridget Huckabay says, "This year's event is going to build on the energy of the games and sports zone so that there is something exciting for everyone in the family to participate in.  Our art market will be the go-to place for your holiday shopping and the incredible music and entertainment will make it truly a community event with the unique addition of the live art demonstrations."

Normal Park partners with local museums to provide an educational experience that is experiential, involves the family and the community and has been nationally celebrated for its academic achievement and community success.  Brewer Media has partnered with the school this year as a media sponsor and EPB and Husch Blackwell are both stage sponsors.  Local businesses and organizations like Riverview Animal Hospital, Link 41, Kelly Suburu and Hair A Go Go are just a few of the Kid's Corner, corporate and community sponsors who help produce the annual event.

Normalpalooza is an annual celebration that emphasizes the important roles that art and the Chattanooga community play in the success of the school and each student.  The annual event raises money that supports the programs of the school and is known regionally for the quality of the artists who participate in the art market.

Roy Exum: So How Am I Really Doing?

I’ve gotten hundreds of jokes since Tuesday when I wrote about feeling a little puny lately and expressing my belief that laughter is the best medicine.
