WSMC Has New Youth-Oriented Radio Program

Thursday, October 25, 2012

WSMC Classical 90.5 has a new program premiering on Friday. Classical Community features youth-oriented music organizations in the greater Chattanooga area.

WSMC hopes to bring more attention to the work that these organizations are doing, as well as to bolster support for them from the community by featuring upcoming concerts and performances.

The first program features the Chattanooga Boys Choir, an organization dating back to the 1950s that has performed all over the world. Future programs will feature the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera’s Youth Orchestra, the Center for Creative Arts, the Collegedale Academy Choirs, and the McCallie Guitar Quartet, among others.

“After seeing this community’s support when WSMC brought From the Top to Chattanooga to celebrate our 50th birthday, we are excited to be able to provide a program that continues this passion by and for young performers,” said Scott Kornblum, general manager for the radio station.

Listeners can tune in Fridays at 10 a.m. and again on Sundays at 10 a.m. For more information on Classical Community, visit wsmc.org or call 236-2905.

See All In The Timing, While There's Still Time

David Ives has been a staple of student scene nights for years now. Not because his writing is in anyway simple, but because it’s short. Here is a playwright who packs a lot into a little. In fact, most of his plays are barely more than the length of SNL sketches, though much more consistently funny. Think early Woody Allen meets Christopher Durang and you begin to approach the ... Scandals At Home And Abroad

Since my hip operation and time in recovery, I have tried to set aside things that are insignificant to me and to average Americans. Don't get me wrong here. What these people are doing (Bengahzi) is despicable be they left or right wing, and they have been doing it (both sides) for a long time. But the dirty deeds themselves carry little weight as to what they mean to you or me. ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: The Boy Who Dared To Speak

Jeff Bliss, an 18-year-old who is in the 10th grade because he dropped out of school last year, got kicked out of a Texas classroom a couple of weeks ago. But as he was exiting the room, he launched into the most wonderful rant that has ever been on the art of teaching children. He should know – his mom is a teacher. With his long hair waving almost as much as his arms, the teenager ... (click for more)
