The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has scheduled a public workshop from 6-7 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Kimball Town Hall, 675 Main St., Kimball, Tn. 37347, to discuss reducing the hours of operation at the Nickajack Navigation Lock effective Jan. 7, 2013.
Reducing the hours of operation from 24 to 20 hours per day is part of a Corps-wide effort to reduce operational costs and to increase funds for maintenance requirements. The hours of closure are 2-6 a.m. daily. Lockages started before the normal close of business will be completed before the lock is closed for the day.
This operational schedule has previously been implemented at navigation locks on the upper Tennessee River with little disturbance to navigation traffic.
