Rance Harden scored four touchdowns and Jim Cardwell crossed the goal line two other times as Boyd-Buchanan defeated visiting Copper Basin, 48-14, in a 2A District 5 football game Friday night.

With the win, the Bucs claim their fourth straight District 5 championship and are 12-0 in district play the past four years.

"Copper Basin averages 35 points a game so to hold them to 14 points is a good night's work by the defense," said Boyd-Buchanan head coach Grant Reynolds who picke up his 60th career win.

"Winning the district title is a testament to our players hard work."

The Bucs (9-1) set the tone in the first minute as Cody Payne returned the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead as Caleb Antwine made good on the first of six extra points.

Touchdown runs by Cardwell and Harden pushed the lead to 21-0 two minutes into the second quarter before Copper Basin's Dylan Boggs scampered eight yards with 2:41 before intermission and a 21-7 score.

Hardin added two more scores in the third quarter and his final touchdown in the fourth before Cardwell sliced through the Cougar defense for 36 yards and the final Bucs tally at the 4:22 mark of the final quarter.

The Cougars Denzel Brown closed out the scoring on a 39-yard run down the left sideline on the next series to give him 96 yards on 14 carries overall.

"The Boyd-Buchanan defense was the difference in the game as they wore us down with their size and strength," said Copper Basin coach Patrick Daley.

"We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves, I am proud of our guys and their effort tonight and we will start to work tomorrow on our first round opponent."

Old School Kicker: Copper Basin senior Bryce Nicholson has turned back the clock as a kicker as he kicks straight on and made both extra points tonight ... "I started kicking as a sophomore and learned this style from Keith Crouch who is the best kicker in school history."

Roy Exum: The Colonel: ‘Tell My Sons’

In the Broadway play, “The Civil War,” there is an emotional song called “Tell My Father,” the words that a dying Union soldier on a distant battlefield asked to be delivered when the other troops got back home.
