Dealing With Past Soddy Daisy Lawsuits
Saturday, October 27, 2012
With the current election building steam and getting the attention of all the locals there seems to be a lot of negative things being said about candidates. What the citizens are being left out of the loop on is the ongoing lawsuit regarding the wrongful termination of a city official in January 2009 that could and probably will cost the taxpayers of Soddy Daisy hundreds of thousands of dollars. Two of our current sitting commissioners (Vice Mayor Janice Cagle and Commissioner Geno Shipley) are involved in this lawsuit.
We have the right to be made aware of what is happening in our city. The commissioners that we vote into place are the people that set our property tax rate. We need those seats filled with with level heads, reputable backgrounds and common business sense. Our taxes did not go up this year simply because it is an election year. However, they did go up last year and you can bet they will go up next year if some of those same commissioners are still in those seats.
Some of these commissioners have been sitting on the board for over 16 years. We need new faces to replace the "good ole boy" policies and move our city along with the changing times. The "good ole boy" policy is what got us into this lawsuit.
Please get out and vote - if you live in Soddy Daisy, this is a very important election for you. It could mean the difference between moving forward with less taxes or dealing with increasing tax rates to help cover the cost of lawsuits like the one created from the system we currently have in place.
