UTC's Robb Captures Medalist Honors At Bridgestone Golf Collegiate

Sunday, October 28, 2012

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) won his second collegiate event shooting 69 (-3) Sunday to capture the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. Robb beat Mississippi’s State’s Axel Boasson by one after trailing him by two entering the final day.

Robb’s nine-under par 207 effort led the Mocs to second-place as a team. UTC (865) was a four-stroke runner-up to Boasson’s Bulldogs (861) while holding off Iowa State in third by a shot at 866.

Robb’s win was impressive. Including defeating his teammate, United States Amateur Champion Steve Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.), the junior topped six total top 100 collegiate golfers with two top 20 –No. 16 Scott Fernandez of Iowa State by five and No. 19 Jonathan Grey of Georgia State by 14.

Fox joined him in the top 10, tying for 10th, at three-over par 219. The duo kept the Mocs within striking distance of Mississippi State, but the Bulldogs overcame the day one leader with a solid one-over 289 today.

Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) matched Fox’s 73 (+1) in the final round. He ended up tied for 39th at 225 (+9) with teammate Michael Monroe (Franklin, Tenn.). Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) was third on the squad for the weekend at 222 (+6).

The Mocs are off until February. The next hit the links February 22-24 at the Redstone Collegiate Championship in Humble Texas.

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem. The boat blocks the view of and from the prettiest park in our town. The crew take many of the parking spots around the park leaving families to park across Frazier and schlep their kids, strollers and picnics to the park. You don't get fireworks ... (click for more)
