Sue Bartlett Wins National 50s Clay Court Title

Girls Preparatory School head tennis coach Sue Bartlett won the USTA National Women's 50s Singles Clay Court Championship this past weekend

Bracket Buster: Seeded fifth, Bartlett beat in order, the Nos, 3, 2 and top-seeded players to claim the national singles title.

The former UTC player posted back-to-back 6-0, 6-0 wins before taking a straight set win (7-6 (5), 6-2) against No.3 Kathy Vick on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Bartlett then beat No.

2 Vicki Buholz (6-1, 6-2) in the semis Sunday morning.

In the Sunday afternoon finals, Bartlett edged No.1 Fran Chandler (Jackson, Tenn.) in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 10-3. Neither finalist had lost a set prior to the championship match.

Hall of Famers: Both Bartlett (Tennessee at Chattanooga) and Chandler (Ole MIss) are in their respective alma mater's athletics hall of fame.

Bartlett-Webb Doubles: Sue Webb and Sue Bartlett finished fourth in the Women's Doubles.

Seeded first, the Chattanooga duo lost to No.6 Fran Chandler-Myke Loomis-Landauer, 6-3, 6-0, in the consolation finals.

City Council Ad Hoc Committee To Study Moving Elections To August, Adding More Districts, Staggering Terms
