The audience will be the judge this weekend at the 10th Annual Showcase of the Stars, the premier event hosted by the Whitfield Education Foundation and sponsored this year by Precision Products Inc. of Tunnel Hill.
The Showcase of the Stars provides a forum for local students to share their vocal and instrumental talents on the stage at Crosspointe Christian Centre this Saturday.
Judges select acts in each of three grade divisions (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12) during informal auditions. Student performers do not have to attend Whitfield County Schools.
"We are very happy to have students from Dalton Public Schools, Georgia Cyber Academy, Murray County Schools, and from all over Whitfield County," said Mary Ellen Kinsey, executive director of the Foundation. "We want to encourage everyone to come enjoy the Showcase and vote for their favorite performer."
Selected students will perform on Crosspointe's stage singing to pre-recorded instrumental tracks, playing their own instruments, or singing a cappella. The top vote recipients are awarded cash prizes and trophies.
Each $7 ticket becomes a ballot allowing the audience to vote for the winners. Guests may purchase tickets in advance by contacting the Foundation at
706/217-6756 or by email at
wef@whitfield.k12.ga.us, or buy as many tickets as they like beginning one hour before each show.
Elementary school performers take the stage at 2 p.m. followed by middle and high school performers at 6 p.m. A Judges' Choice trophy will also be presented in each grade division. Profits from this event help fund the Whitfield Education Foundation's Innovative Teaching Grant Program.
