Leading Into Final Days of Early Voting, Approximately 1 Million Tennesseans Have Cast Ballots

Tuesday Marks Final Day For By-Mail Absentee Ballot Requests To Be Accepted By Election Commissions

Monday, October 29, 2012

Turnout for the Nov. 6 election neared one million voters on Saturday, the 10th day of the early voting period in Tennessee.  More than 180,000 voters cast their votes on Friday and Saturday to bring the statewide total to 999,061 voters.  By comparison, approximately 985,000 voters had cast ballots through the same period in 2008.

“Our turnout continues to outpace comparable elections,” said Secretary of State Tre Hargett.  “It is also important to remember that voters wishing to vote by mail must be sure their absentee ballot request applications are received by county election commissions by October 30.”

The in-person early voting period will continue through Thursday.  Voters with questions regarding the locations and hours of early voting or the absentee by-mail process are encouraged to contact their local election commission offices.
