Covenant Women Fall At Maryville

Wednesday, October 03, 2012
MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- In a battle of the Scots, it was Maryville that came out victorious. Taylor Emerson's goal in the 37th minute of the first half proved to be the game-winner as the host Scots snapped Covenant's eight-game win streak with a 1-0 win.

The loss for Covenant also means that head coach Mark Duble is still one win short of reaching 200 for his career. The Lady Scots will get a chance to get him the milestone victory on Homecoming Saturday against Tennessee Temple.

Emerson gave Maryville the lead when she received a pass from teammate Ashley Howarth and placed her shot beyond the reach of Covenant keeper Hannah Bales for the score.

Maryville (7-1-0) outshot the visiting Lady Scots 12-2 and 6-1 in shots on goal. Maryville also had a slight edge in corner kicks, 4-3.

The best opportunity Covenant (8-2-1) had all evening came midway through the second half when Ruth Terry nearly beat the Maryville keeper to the ball. Terry had the ball ricochet off her, as the Maryville keeper tried to clear the ball, and land just left of the net.

Anne Charlotte Strawbridge took the only shot on goal for the Lady Scots. Bales made five saves for Covenant, while Maryville keeper Michelle Foulke recorded the lone save for the home team.

Covenant returns to the field on Saturday against Tennessee Temple at 4:30 Scotland Yard. The match is part of Covenant's 2012 Homecoming. The match will be followed by the men's match at 7 p.m. which is followed by fireworks.

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem. The boat blocks the view of and from the prettiest park in our town. The crew take many of the parking spots around the park leaving families to park across Frazier and schlep their kids, strollers and picnics to the park. You don't get fireworks ... (click for more)

Last May ... (click for more)
