Senators Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., both members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today renewed their demand for more details regarding the increasing threats and security concerns that preceded the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that resulted in the death of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens. Earlier today, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton responded in a letter to Corker and Isakson’s request of September 25^th "without providing additional information on the attacks or a timeline for when that information would be made available to members of the committee."

“[W]e hope that in the next few days you follow through with transmitting information requested by members of Congress. In particular, we renew our request for all communications between the diplomatic mission in Libya and the State Department related to the security situation to be transmitted to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee without delay,” said Senators Corker and Isakson in their letter to Secretary of State Clinton today.

In the wake of conflicting reports from the administration about the events leading up to the attacks, including reports that Ambassador Stevens kept a diary chronicling his concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Benghazi, the two senators sent a letter to Secretary Clinton on September 25 "demanding that the State Department promptly provide the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with all communication relevant to the security situation in Benghazi between the U.S. Mission to Libya and the State Department leading up to the attacks, including any cables sent from Ambassador Stevens."

Senators Corker and Isakson, along with the rest of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Republicans and Democrats, signed an additional letter to the State Department asking for information requested in the DeMint-Corker bill and an interim report and briefing regarding security prior to the Benghazi attacks.
