Police said a shoplifter at the Family Dollar on Tennessee Avenue dropped her loot outside the store.
A clerk saw a black female stuffing items into a white purse, then walking out without paying.
One employee tried to follow the woman, but she got away. An officer who responded found the white purse on 40th Street. He said a black male walked over to it, but he acknowledged it did not belong to anyone he knew.
Inside the purse were Family Dollars items, including six pairs of earrings, a box of Mariah Carey perfume, some women's panties, men's briefs and an energy drink. There was also some socks - with the Family Dollar security device still attached.
