Former GPS Soccer Standout McKinney Is Lincoln Memorial Athlete Of The Week

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Lincoln Memorial University sophomore forward Nicole McKinney, former GPS standout, has been named the Railsplitter of the Week for the week.

McKinney (Ooltewah) garnered this honor after leading the Lady Railsplitters to a 1-0-1 week. She opened the week with a pair of goals and an assist to pace LMU in a convincing 5-0 victory over nonconference foe Bryan College. McKinney recorded goals in the 18th and 44th minutes, while dishing an assist to Olivia Thompson in the 57th minute.

On Saturday, Nicole played a significant role in the Lady Railsplitters' 0-0 draw at Newberry College to cap the regular-season schedule. Lincoln Memorial tallied 16 shots while limiting the Wolves to five. McKinney fired five shots of those shots in the match with two coming on goal, as the Lady Railsplitters controlled the pace offensively throughout the contest.

With five points this past week, McKinney brings her season total to nine points, as she ranks third on the team with three goals and leads the squad with three assists. She also is second on the team in shots (44) and shots on goal (17).

The Lady Railsplitters concluded the regular-season on Saturday with a 7-6-2 overall record and a 3-4-2 mark in conference play, earning the No.6 seed for the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship. They will travel to face No.3 Tusculum College today at 7 p.m. A win would advance the Lady Railsplitters to the semifinals of the SAC Tournament, which would be held on Friday in Rock Hill, S.C.

Roy Exum: So How Am I Really Doing?
