Police said a person who saw a woman knocked out and her purse taken gave chase, leading to the arrest of 18-year-old Robert Lee Penn III. A second suspect got away.
Police responded late Tuesday night to a business at 2906 Calhoun Ave., near Rossville Boulevard. Officers found that Kimberly Green, 49, of Fort Oglethorpe, had been punched in the head. She was knocked unconscious and was out for about five minutes.
After hitting the woman, the pair fled with her purse.
The eyewitness chased the robbers in his vehicle. They eventually stopped running and the eyewitness approached them.
Police said they started running again, dropping Ms. Green's purse.
Moments later, police located Penn in the 2000 block of Washington Street. He was brought back to the robbery scene and was identified by one of the people who witnessed the incident.
Ms. Green was transported by ambulance to Erlanger Medical Center. Police were advised that she suffered a concussion, a broken thumb and lacerations to the side of her head.
