Miller & Martin Appoints New Leadership To Firm's Labor And Employment Department

Miller & Martin PLLC announced that John R. Bode has been selected as chairman of the firm’s Labor & Employment department.  John Y. (Jay) Elliott III will assume the role of the department vice-chairman. 

Mr. Bode was recently named “Lawyer of the Year” in the area of Employment Law/Management Representation in the 2013 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.  He is entering his 28th year of practice, devoted exclusively to the representation of prominent national, regional and Tennessee employers in all aspects of labor and employment law.

Mr. Elliott concentrates his practice on labor and employment. He represents a number of major employers in handling employment discrimination, harassment, and retaliation complaints and claims filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and similar state agencies.  In addition to his nation-wide labor and employment law practice, Mr. Elliott founded and leads the Cleveland Area HR Roundtable, a group of select Human Resource professionals in the Cleveland, Tn., area that meets quarterly.

Tennessee Unemployment Rates Down In 62 Counties, Up In 23, And No Change In 10

County unemployment rates in Tennessee for April 2013, released Thursday, show the rate decreased in 62 counties, increased in 23, and stayed the same in ten. Specific county information is available here . Knox County had the state’s lowest major metropolitan rate of 6.4 percent, up from 6.2 percent in March. Feds Dismiss Criminal Charges Against Rarity Developer Mike Ross

Federal authorities have dismissed an indictment against Mike Ross, the developer of a floundering Rarity Club project at Nickajack Lake in Marion County. The Maryville developer was charged last November with mail fraud, wire fraud and money laundering. Head Of BB&T's Chattanooga Commercial Banking Operations To Plead Guilty To Making Fraudulent Loans

The head of BB&T's Chattanooga commercial banking operations has been charged by federal authorities with making fraudulent loans. Tracy Brown is set to plead guilty to bank fraud on June 4.
