Young Women’s Leadership Academy Foundation Seeks Applicants For Supernova Award

The Young Women’s Leadership Academy Foundation is seeking nominations for its 2013 Supernova Award.  The awards ceremony will be given at YWLAF’s annual Odyssey fundraiser and luncheon.   

Odyssey 2013: Inspiring the Next Generation of Leaders, will take place Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Chattanooga Convention Center.  The Supernova Award recognizes women in greater Chattanooga who are leaders, educators and innovators in the world of science, technology, engineering and math.  Nominees should be considered role models for young girls aiming for careers in STEM and deemed as an exemplar in their field.

Award finalists will be recognized during the luncheon with one distinguished nominee being awarded the Supernova 2013 award.  “CGLA is very excited to celebrate another year of women in STEM," said Elain Swaffor, CGLA director.  "As a school whose curriculum is STEM-based, we realize the importance of making sure our girls have active role models in this field while educating the community on the importance of STEM. "

In addition to recognizing notable women in STEM, the 2013 Odyssey fundraiser will also feature Nashville-based recording artist and author, Jimmy Wayne.  He will serve as both the keynote speaker and entertainer for the event.

Morning Pointe Awards First Nursing Scholarship At Chattanooga State

Independent Healthcare Properties (IHP) awarded the first Morning Pointe endowed nursing scholarship to Chattanooga State student. 3 Charged In Raleigh With Murder Of Former Cleveland, Tn., Woman

Three people have been charged in Raleigh, N.C., with the murder last week of a 30-year-old woman, who had just moved from Cleveland, Tn. Arrested for the slaying of Melissa Dawn Huggins-Jones were Ronald Lee Anthony, 23; Sarah Rene Redden, 18, and Travion Devonte Smith, 20.
