Lee Golfers Second In Chick-Fil-A Intercollegiate

The Lee men's golf team improved by 13 strokes on Tuesday but that was not enough to overtake Coastal Georgia College in the final round of the Chick-Fil-A Intercollegiate hosted by Berry College.
The Flames finished the 36-hole event with a cumulative 292 score and a two-day total of 597. Coastal Georgia claimed top honors with a 578, while the University of the Cumberlands was third at 579 and Spring Hill College rounded out the top four with a 591. Not only did the Georgia team take team honors, it also grabbed the medalist crown when Alastair Tidcombe won in a playoff.
After playing Monday's opening 18 in the rain and cool conditions at the Coosa Country Club, the Flames moved to Stonebridge Golf Club for Tuesday's play. A total of 25 teams took part and 135 golfers competed for medalist honors.
Freshman Taylor Davis finished with an even par round of 72 on Tuesday and his 149 matched the final totals of teammates Forian Loutre and JB Eksteen. Loutre had a 74 in the final round and Eksteen was 1-over at 73. Matt Emery rounded out the top four scores that counted for the Flames. He had a 73 (150 total), while Hunter Vest came in with a 75 (152).
Another freshman paced the B-squad scoring. In fact, Peyton Sliger carried the leading 36-hole total back to the Lee campus. He had rounds of 73-74 147. Freshman Scott Murray tallied a 78 on Tuesday for a 164 total. Tyler Smith carded an 82 (163), while Zack Lawson had an 83 and a 168 finish.
"Today was better, particularly our focus level," said coach John Maupin. "We looked great through the front nine today, but we just couldn't keep the momentum going on the second nine. Overall, it was a disappointing tournament for us. I expected us to be much more competitive for the championship."
Added Maupin: "We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves. We will leave for our final tournament of the fall on Saturday (SCAD-Savannah) and we need to play a lot better than we did this week."
