Some local residents reported feeling an earthquake shortly after noon on Saturday.
According to the USGS website there was a confirmed earthquake with a 4.3 magnitude just south of Whitesburg, Ky., at 12:08 p.m. Saturday.
There have been no reports of injuries or damage resulting from the tremor.
People have reported feeling the quake as far south as Atlanta, which wouldn't be out of the question according to a report released earlier this year. A summary of the report posted on the USGS website states that the shaking from earthquakes seems to travel farther in the eastern half of our country than in the western half. The report suggests that, although earthquakes happen much less frequently in the East, they can be felt and cause damage over a much larger area than in the West.
