Two Red Bank firefighters who were injured while fighting a fire at a house Saturday evening in Red Bank should return to work in a few days.

Bill Garner and Joseph DeMary, Jr. received minor injuries from a collapsed ceiling at 509 Harwood Dr..

Red Bank Fire officials report the fire started in the attic as a result of an electrical short. The cause of the fire is ruled accidental.

A 911 call was received at 7:40 p.m., reporting the house fire. Red Bank firefighters responded and reported fire around the chimney area and smoke pouring out of the eaves. Firefighters quickly gained entry into the house where they extinguished fire in the attic area.

During the overhaul/interior operations, the living room ceiling collapsed on the two on-duty firemen.  Hamilton County EMS transported both firefighters to Erlanger Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Red Bank Fire Department requested a mutual aid response for additional manpower. Walden's Ridge Emergency Services and Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded.

The renters, Kim Wyatt and Jenny Fein, reported smelling "marshmallows roasting" from somewhere in the house. Ms. Fein went into the garage to investigate and found fire showing at the corner of the garage. She attempted to extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful. They immediately evacuated the home with all four dogs.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist them. Damages are estimated at $60,000, the cause is undetermined at this time and will be under investigation by the Red Bank Fire Department.

Scandals At Home And Abroad

Since my hip operation and time in recovery, I have tried to set aside things that are insignificant to me and to average Americans. Don't get me wrong here. But the dirty deeds themselves carry little weight as to what they mean to you or me. ... (click for more)
