Archie Herman “ Humpy” Hegwood, age 87, of LaFayette, Ga., died on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Heritage Health Care.

Mr. Hegwood was born February 10, 1925 in LaFayette, Ga., the son of the late William Perry Hegwood and Emma Cornelia Curry Hegwood. He was retired from Riegel Textile. He was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church LaFayette, and he was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church, Chickamauga. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Parker Hegwood; sisters, Thelma Montgomery and Eula Bauchum; and brothers, Fred Hegwood, Bill Hegwood, Roy Hegwood, Alton Hegwood, and Walton Hegwood.

Mr. Hegwood is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Linda Hegwood; grandson and wife, Neil and Joella Hegwood; great grandchild, Abbigail Hegwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, in LaFayette City Cemetery. Reverend Mike Peterson and Reverend Chuck Romaine will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Randall Cagle, Lloyd Mitchell, Jerry Keown, Buddy Day, Bob Chapman, and Barry Hollis.

Mr. Hegwood will be in state at Second Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13. 


Tofte, Rodney Jerome (LaFayette)

Rodney Jerome Tofte, 77, of Lafayette, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on  Friday , April, 21. He was predeceased by his parents, Durwood Tofte, Mary Calvert, and brother, Steven Tofte. Odell Dyer, 91, of Crossville, Tennessee and formerly of Dunlap, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Cumberland Medical Center. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Crossville, TN. Sandra Lue Smith, 66, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in a local health care facility, surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born in Cedar Bluff, Al., to Cleveland, Sr. and Vadie Stallings Smith.  Sandra attended Lafayette High School in Lafayette, Ga. William Jessie Taylor,  47, of Birchwood, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Will was born at the Naval Base in Groton, Ct., on Nov. 12, 1969. County School Teachers To Get 3% Raise Under Balanced County School Budget

Hamilton County Schools teachers are slated to get three percent pay increases under the balanced budget approved by the School Board on Thursday afternoon. That comes on top of a two percent hike last year.
