At approximately 4:24 p.m., the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a traffic crash in the 9100 block of East Brainerd Road involving a school bus. When deputies arrived, they found that a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner struck a 2008 Thomas school bus owned by Durham School Service.
The school bus was stopped to let students disembark when it was struck in the rear by the Toyota 4 Runner.
The bus carried 49 students at the time of the incident. The bus driver and one student were transported by Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital for medical treatment. One other student was treated and released at the scene.
None of the three juveniles in the Toyota 4 Runner was injured.
The juvenile driver of the Toyota 4 Runner was cited for following too close and violating the passenger restriction on his Tennessee restricted intermediate driver’s license.
