I spoke with Red Bank Vice Mayor John Roberts about the memorial at the old Red Bank High School today and was informed that the Red Bank Public Works will soon remove the memorial and take it to their storage yard where it will be kept until a suitable site is created for it.
According to the land swap agreement -old school property/new school property- part of the school land must be maintained as a park. It is the city's intention to place the memorial, as well as any other plaques, etc. they may find on the property in this new park area.
There are supposed to be at least two "Time Capsules" buried there, and who knows what else may be found when the property is stripped before demolition.
I appreciate the immediate attention given this by the vice mayor (whose father is Class of 69 or 70) and also the director of Public Works who went to look at it before the vice mayor contacted him about it.
A lot is said about Red Bank, but this is one area where they deserve credit for their responsiveness. Thanks to all involved.
