One of two plaintiffs in a lawsuit brought against the County Commission seeking to block opening prayers at commission sessions has asked for permission to deliver one of the invocations.
Tommy Coleman told commission members on Thursday that he is a pastor of the Universal Life Church.
He said he could present his credentials as a minister if needed.
Chairman Larry Henry told him to check with commission staff about getting one of the invocation spots.
Mr. Coleman often attends commission meetings. During the prayers, he declines to stand as most others do and films the proceedings.
He and Brandon Jones are appealing a decision of Federal Judge Sandy Mattice not to grant an injunction blocking the prayers.
