Downtown Chattanooga’s expanding riverfront introduces a new LEED certified property.
Owned and operated by 3H Group Hotels, SpringHill Suites by Marriott Chattanooga Downtown at Cameron Harbor became Silver Level LEED Certified on Oct. 30. The newest addition to the Chattanooga Riverfront is the first and only hotel on the banks of the Tennessee River to hold a LEED Certification in Chattanooga.
Aiming to be Silver Level LEED was a decision that was implemented at the start of development in 2010. SpringHill Suites was constructed to be LEED Certified, focusing on the building specifics needed to hold a Silver Level standing.
SpringHill Suites was developed under the five main pillars which LEED is determined: Sustainable Site Credits, Water Efficiency Credits, Energy & Atmosphere Credits, Materials & Resources Credits, and Indoor Environmental Quality Credits.
LEED- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design- is intended to provide building owners and operators a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations, and maintenance solutions according to USGBC.org.
“LEED Certification is an internationally recognized achievement that takes a team effort from beginning to end,” Jason Rothenberg, project director for 3H Group Hotels, said. “It is rewarding to know that SpringHill Suites is the only LEED Silver hotel on the river in Chattanooga.”
Once development was underway, 3H Group Hotels brought in a LEED administrator to assist with the proper completion of the process. Once the process was completed and the paperwork was submitted, it was announced that the Silver level of certification was granted to the riverfront property.

Following after 3H Group’s mission to take after green practices, SpringHill Suites also participates in the towel/linen reuse program, The Global Soap Project, and recycles.
The 116 all-suite hotel is located at 495 Riverfront Parkway and features balcony guest suites, an on-site lounge open daily, business services, and complimentary breakfast.
