Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Honors Rooks And Ulmer In Recognition Of 90th Year Founder’s Day Celebration

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority will celebrate 90 years of “greater service, greater progress” on Monday. During the month of November, celebrations will be held all across the country as members honor the seven founders who organized the sorority based on principles of sisterhood, scholarship, and service. 

In recognition of this milestone, Gamma Theta Sigma Chapter will worship at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church with members Ethel Ulmer and Eunice Rooks.  These two women will be honored for their dedicated service and longevity within the organization. 

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority's aim is to enhance the quality of life within the community. Public service, leadership development and education of youth are the hallmark of the organization's programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically, and economically.

Deonta Banks, 23, Shot On Wilcox Boulevard Early Sunday Morning

Deonta Banks, 23, was shot early Sunday morning on Wilcox Boulevard. At approximately  3 a.m.  the Chattanooga Police Department responded to shots fired at 3232 Wilcox Boulevard.  Upon arrival, Chattanooga police located a single victim, Deonta Banks, suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. A man was stabbed Saturday morning on Sunrise Lane.   At approximately  11:41  a.m., the Chattanooga Police Department responded to a reported stabbing at 309 Sunrise Lane.  Officers located a 45-year-old black male suffering from a non-life threatening stab wound.
