Chattanooga Zoo will host the first annual Snow Leopard Appreciation Day on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. On this day, six week old boy and girl cubs, recently named Everest and Maliha respectively by Zoo supporters, will be making their public debut.
Snow Leopards are considered a highly endangered species with only four to six thousand remaining in the wild. The Chattanooga Zoo hopes to use this occasion to bring awareness and education to snow leopard conservation efforts both locally and abroad.
During Snow Leopard Appreciation Day, visitors will be encouraged to participate in interactive education stations highlighting conservation efforts while watching the cubs frolic in actual snow generously donated by the Tennessee Valley Ice Company. Snow Leopard Day activities are free with Zoo admission.
Zoo Executive Director Darde Long says, "It has been such a treat to watch both cubs grow and develop every day. We are excited to share this wonderful, unique opportunity with the public.”
