Marvin Stinnett, 82, of Old Fort, TN, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2012.
He was born on November 5, 1930 to Stella Mae Cavett Stinnett and Alfred Henry Stinnett. The oldest of seven children, he went to work at an early age to help support the family. Mr. Stinnett was a hard working carpenter for many years and built several homes and commercial buildings in the area. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for Volunteer Energy Cooperative for 23 years. Mr. Stinnett was a faithful member and ordained deacon of Blue Ridge Temple Baptist Church in Old Fort. He was a Gideon for over 40 years, a member of the Benton Lion’s Club, and also served as a past President of the Old Fort Community Club.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Liner Stinnett; son, Mike (Kim) Stinnett; daughter Ann (Ronnie) German both of Old Fort; grandchildren, Drew German, Hollie German, Laura (Eddie) German Swallows and Marshall and Mathew Stinnett; sisters, Leota (Billy) Rice and Lucille (Rev. W.L.) Shipman; brothers, Paul Stinnett and Jerry (Clara) Stinnett, all of Cleveland and Billy (Drucilla) Stinnett and A.J. (Shirlyn) Stinnett both of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 17, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Campbell, Reverend W.L. Shipman and Reverend Leroy Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.
His family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, December 16, and from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 17 at the Higgins Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.
