Retired After 30 Years As Hamilton County Educator

Marie Dyke Wood, 100, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, died on Monday, December 17, 2012. 

She was a member of the Soddy United Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star Mayflower Chapter No. 430. Ms. Wood retired from the Hamilton County Department of Education after 30 years as a school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Wood, Jr.; and a son, Walter George Wood.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Edith Snider; Martha (Joseph) Hager; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Soddy United Methodist Church, with Reverend Ken Scoggins officiating.

Man Shot And Killed In Alton Park On Tuesday Night

A man was shot and killed in Alton Park on Tuesday night. The incident happened in the 3800 block of Highland Avenue. Chattanooga Police initially said they had no suspects. Judge Denies Motion By Walker County To Delay Closing Of Hutcheson Hospital

A bankruptcy judge in Atlanta on Tuesday denied a motion by Walker County, Ga., is asking a delay in closing Hutcheson Medical Center and laying off employees.
