World War II Navy Veteran Retired From DuPont

Herbert “Herb” Charles Stephens, 88, died on Thursday, December 20 at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and served our country in the United States Navy on the USS Holland during World War II. Herb retired from DuPont Corporation and was a longtime member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Peggie Stephens; parents, Joe and Ethel Hartman Stephens; two brothers and a sister.

Herb is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Richard Fisher of Dayton, Jane and Jay Hicks, Jean and David Hicks, all of Ooltewah, Amy and Randy Reno of Canton, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5401 Highway 153, in Hixson with Reverend Ronald Ragon and Reverend Jonathan Schwartz officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Herb’s name to Brainerd Presbyterian Church, 1624 Jenkins Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421, Martin – Boyd Christian Home, 6845 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421, or Hospice of Chattanooga,  P. TVA Sues Cleveland's Allan Jones Over Dock, Retaining Wall, Boat Ramp, Boathouse On Hiwassee River

TVA has sued Cleveland, Tn., Check Into Cash millionaire W. Allan Jones Jr. over the construction of a dock, retaining wall, boat ramp and boathouse on the Hiwassee River. Bobby Dodd Lawsuit Against City Moved To Federal Court

A lawsuit brought by former Chattanooga Police Chief Bobby Dodd against the city of Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Fire and Police Pension Fund over his pension has been moved to Federal Court.
