World War II Navy Veteran Retired From DuPont

Herbert “Herb” Charles Stephens, 88, died on Thursday, December 20 at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and served our country in the United States Navy on the USS Holland during World War II. Herb retired from DuPont Corporation and was a longtime member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Peggie Stephens; parents, Joe and Ethel Hartman Stephens; two brothers and a sister.

Herb is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Richard Fisher of Dayton, Jane and Jay Hicks, Jean and David Hicks, all of Ooltewah, Amy and Randy Reno of Canton, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5401 Highway 153, in Hixson with Reverend Ronald Ragon and Reverend Jonathan Schwartz officiating.
