Gussie Lee Manns, 91, died on December 29, 2012 at a local health care facility.  

She was formerly employed at McCallie School Cafeteria, Notre Dame Cafeteria, Chambliss Children’s Home, and Foster Grandparent Program and Avondale School.  She was a faithful member of Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church where she served as head of the Mother Board; in the Missionary Society and on the Hospitality Committee. Ms. Gussie’s hobbies included sewing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Manns; parents, John and Christine Bigoms; daughter, Jennifer Bailey; grandsons, Vincent Bailey and Michael Kennedy; great-grandson, Anthony Robinson, Jr.

Survivors include her sons, Elroy and Robert (Linda) Bailey of Chattanooga; daughter, Myrtice Johnson of Nashville; 16 grandchildren; a host of great and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Lawrence, Chattanooga; devoted great-granddaughter, Quinita Robinson of Chattanooga; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Moore officiating.  Interment will be in National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Thursday at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
