A 911 call from a concerned neighbor and teamwork by responding officers resulted in three burglary arrests on Tuesday, and more burglaries in the area may be solved as a result.
Mark Medrano, 18, of 215 Goldenrod Lane, Esmalin Rene Chavez, 17, of 512 Central Avenue and Marcos Francisco Silva, 17, of 738 Reed Pond Road were arrested and charged with one count each of burglary and one count each of violating the Georgia Anti-Gang Act. The gang charges stem from being identified as gang members.
The incident happened shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, when a neighbor spotted the three young men breaking into a house at 201 Goldenrod Lane through a back kitchen door. The neighbor called 911 and as officers responded. The witness told dispatchers that the suspects had run out the back door and had jumped the fence.
Officers searched the area and followed a trail of footprints while the home owner met with investigators and checked for missing property. Officers eventually found the suspects in the back yard of a nearby house.
The men had in their possession electronic equipment including an iPad and iPod, assorted jewelry, and a designer purse which had all been reported missing by the victim. The stolen property was returned to the victim.
Investigators have reason to believe these suspects may be connected to other recent burglaries in the area of Goldenrod Lane, and further charges are possible as the investigation continues.
Anyone with information on these three arrestees is asked to contact Detective Ricky Long at 706 278-9085, ext. 168.
