Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-24 resurfacing beginning west of Chattanooga Creek (LM 6.18 / MM 177) to near Crest Rd. (LM 11.35 / MM 183), including bridge deck repair:  The contractor has completed all contract items.  The contractor may need either one lane or two lanes closed (only 10 p.m.-5 a.m.) to address punchlist items.  At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.  THP will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is February. 


 I-75 design-build project from Enterprise South interchange (Exit 9) to SR-317 (Apison Pike) at Old Lee Hwy.:  The contractor is performing paving operations on the new bridge and roadway that will connect the interchange at Exit 9 to SR-317 at Old Lee Hwy.  Estimated completion date is February. 


U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mtn. Blvd.):  The contractor has implemented a new traffic configuration on U.S. 27 South at the bridge over Signal Mtn. Blvd. and permanent ramp closures on U.S. 27 South at Manning Street and Whitehall Road.  Vehicles on U.S. 27 South now merge into one lane on the bridge over Signal Mtn. Blvd., while vehicles entering U.S. 27 South from Signal Mtn. Blvd. are using a dedicated lane to access the corridor.  Houser Street has been permanently closed as well.  Crews are currently working at night between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. installing concrete barrier walls and restriping the pavement as part of their traffic control on the project.  They will soon begin work on widening several bridges and building retaining walls along U.S. 27 South.   Weather permitting, the contractor will implement nighttime closures at the northbound on-ramp at Signal Mtn. Blvd. to rework asphalt shoulders and place portable concrete barrier at the on-ramp.  The ramp will be reopened to traffic each morning.  All work is weather permitting.  At least one lane in each direction will remain open to traffic at all times.  THP will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated completion date is October 2014. 

 College Drive East widening project from west of Sunkist Terrace to SR-317 (Apison Pike):  The contractor will be working on College Drive East throughout the project area placing barrier rail and installing erosion control items between 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is July. 


SR-60 construction of concrete slab bridge over branch (LM 0.44):  (This project is near the Meigs County Line.)  The contractor may be performing work throughout the project area between 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September. 


Shallowford Road construction of concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge over South Chickamauga Creek (LM 4.01), including grading drainage, and paving:  The contractor is constructing the new bridge and performing grading operations.  There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project.  Traffic has been shifted to Phase 1 of the new bridge while the original bridge is demolished and Phase 2 is completed.  The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to perform bridge work during non-peak hours.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is June. 


U.S. 11 (SR-2, Lee Highway) construction of a concrete box beam bridge over the CSX Railroad (LM 16.25), including grading, drainage and paving:  The contractor is performing erosion control measurements, grading operations and constructing the new bridge.  There will be no long-term lane closures as a result of this project.  The existing bridge will remain open until construction of a new adjacent structure is complete.  The contractor may have intermittent short-term lane closures to perform bridge work during non-peak hours.  The contractor will have one lane of traffic closed on U.S. 11/Lee Hwy. northbound and southbound at the bridge to shift barrier rail over to finish the grading and paving for Phase I of the project.  These lanes will remain closed until traffic has been shifted.  One 12’ lane of traffic in each direction will be open at all times.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is June. 


U.S. 127 (SR-8) resurfacing beginning south of Glendale Drive (LM 14.03) to Miles Road (LM 18.87):  This work is complete pending final inspection.  Estimated project completion date is February. 


Community Service & Mentoring Day At Boys & Girls Club Camp Is Saturday

40 area youth will spend their day on Saturday, helping clean up the Boys & Girls Club Camp which was damaged in the April 2011 storms. While cleaning up the camp, the youth will work with mentors who will help guide the youth in relationship building skills, healthy life choices and encourage good educational plans. Man Who Survived By "Playing Dead" Points To Talley, Grace As Robbers Involved In Shooting Of Him And Rapper Brikk

The California agent for a promising Chattanooga rapper on Tuesday afternoon identified Dexter Talley and Alonzo Grace as two of five men who burst into a Highway 58 area duplex and robbed and then shot him and Robert "Brikk" Brown. Wolfe Giving Obama A Run For His Money In Arkansas

Chattanooga attorney John Wolfe is giving President Obama a run for his money in Arkansas.
