Georgia Northwestern Falls At R.A.C.

Saturday, February 11, 2012

An 11-0 run to open the second half for Emory-Oxford erased the 11-point edge Georgia Northwestern held going into the intermission. Eagle sharpshooter Kevin Tolbert helped his team steal the win on the road with his 19 points. The Bobcats (7-17, 0-7) fall at The R.A.C., 76-65.

6-foot-3 Bobcat freshman guard Justin Dempsey (Ruleville, MS) has earned his way into a starting spot on the rotation and led the home squad with 15 points on the day.

Freshman forward Alex Miller (Gordon Central) also cleaned The R.A.C. nets for 15.

The difference in the game came with Emory-Oxford (16-8, 4-2) dropping 21 points off of Bobcat turnovers. In the second half, the Cats shot a season-low 26-percent from the field while watching the Eagles ring up baskets at a 52-percent click.

The Bobcats out-rebounded the road team 37-35. However, the final twenty minutes would see the Eagles double-up Georgia Northwestern, 44-22.

The Bobcats honored men’s head basketball coach David Stephenson at the intermission. A special ceremony was held to honor Coach Stephenson’s 25 years of coaching on the high school and college level across the Tennessee Valley.

Georgia Northwestern ends its final home stand of the 2011-12 season with a re-match with Crown College (TN). Crown dropped the Cats on their home court November 17, 88-80 in overtime.

The first match-up with the Crusaders led to the season-ending injury of Georgia Northwestern starting point guard Fernando Lemus, Jr. (Model) late in that game. The ACL injury forced Lemus into rehab which has him on a schedule to return for a full first-year of play next November.

The 2011-12 regular season wrap-ups on the road next Friday as they take another shot against Emory-Oxford in Oxford, Georgia. The NJCAA Region XVII Tournament tips-off March 4 in Oxford, Georgia.

More recently he has emerged as one of the leading ... (click for more)
