Lee Softball Wins Frigid Opener

The Lee University softball team started the 2012 season on a frigid Saturday afternoon with a 34-0 defeat of first-year program Tennessee Temple University. The second game of the doubleheader was canceled.

Lee (1-0) had big games from Savanna Bell and Kelsey Barnes. Bell was 5-for-5 with six runs, five RBI, a triple and a double. Barnes tripled and doubled on her way to being 3-for-5 with four runs scored and five RBI.

Dezirae Parsons was 3-for-3, including a double and a triple.  Other Lady Flames with multiple hits were Jennifer Ringle, Charlie Wooden, Tabitha Farrow, Dominique Hannah and Nicole Rodriguez. Farrow had a triple and Ringle had two doubles, while Wooden and Rodriguez each recorded doubles.

Jessa Watts gave up two hits and struck out eight in four innings to pick up the win. Hannah Hight walked one and struck out three in one inning of relief.

For the Lady Crusaders (0-1), Raven Pope was 2-for-2 on the day. Taylor Decker was charged with the loss in the circle.

Lee will next see action when they host Tennessee Wesleyan College on February 15. The Wednesday afternoon doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.



Division II Quarterfinal Soccer Pairings Set

The Division IIAA quarterfinal soccer pairings are set to begin this weekend. Man Who Survived By "Playing Dead" Points To Talley, Grace As Robbers Involved In Shooting Of Him And Rapper Brikk

The California agent for a promising Chattanooga rapper on Tuesday afternoon identified Dexter Talley and Alonzo Grace as two of five men who burst into a Highway 58 area duplex and robbed and then shot him and Robert "Brikk" Brown.
