Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon.
Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott. He is still listed in serious condition.
Mr. Phillips was driving a Chevrolet Impala when a pickup truck driven by Mr. Elliott went across Hixson Pike into the opposing lane of traffic.
At 4:51 p.m., Chattanooga Police officers responded to the traffic crash at 4900 Hixson Pike.
The officers found that the pickup was southbound on Highway 153 and exited onto southbound Hixson Pike. As Mr. Elliott merged onto Hixson Pike, he crossed over the grass median and struck the Phillips car that was northbound on Hixson Pike.
Traffic Investigators stated that both men were wearing their seatbelts. It is unknown at this time why the driver of the Ford pickup failed to negotiate the curve, but the investigation is continuing. Charges may be filed pending the outcome of the crash investigation and reconstruction.
