I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews. Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin. A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.
That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted. He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of us could sleep a little easier at night. The evil that runs in the blood of the Mathews family has just been diluted.
Kathleen won't be hurting anyone any more.
The recent publicity that the Mathews' family has been getting is stirring up emotions for me again. I'm still humbled when I remember the outpouring of support following Sgt. Chapin's murder. I remember seeing people lining the streets, waving flags, crying, and coming together. Tim Chapin was a man loved by everyone that knew him. We miss him deeply. Thank you, Chattanooga. We'll never forget your outpouring of love and support. It keeps us going, no matter what.
You can rest well tonight, Sarge. One down, only a few more to go.
