Vince Dean Picks Up For Senate Race; Tommie Brown Headed For Contest With JoAnne Favors

Monday, February 13, 2012

Rep. Vince Dean has picked up papers to run for the Senate District 10 seat now held by Democrat Andy Berke.

And Rep. Tommie Brown picked up papers to retain her District 28 seat. That sets up a clash with Rep. JoAnne Favors, who picked up for District 28 earlier.

Under Republican redistricting, Rep. Favors wound up in the Brown district.

Rep. Dean, a Republican from East Ridge, has long served in House District 30.

However, Republicans radically changed Senate District 10 in the redistricting.

It now stretches across the southern portion of Hamilton County where Rep. Dean lives in East Ridge. It extends on to the northeast to heavily-Republican Bradley County.

Rep. Dean is a former mayor of East Ridge.

Senator Berke has not indicated whether he will seek re-election. He has been mentioned as a possible candidate for mayor of Chattanooga in the election early next year.

Perennial candidate Basil Marceaux Sr. picked up papers to run as a Republican in House District 27 against incumbent Richard Floyd.

His son, Basil Marceaux Jr., picked up papers earlier to run as a Republican in District 28.

Republican Larry Grohn earlier picked up to run for the House seat now held by Rep. Dean.

The deadline to turn in petitions is April 5 at noon.
