Erlanger Offers Classes And Events For Feb. 20-24

The Erlanger schedule of classes and events for Feb. 20-24 includes a variety of HealthLink Plus fitness opportunities, weight management and family planning classes. Call Erlanger HealthLink at 778-LINK (5465), Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.  HealthLink Plus is a free membership program open to adults 18 and older. 

Monday, Feb. 20
Low Impact Exercise 8:45-9:45 a.m.
North River Civic Center
Join us for a free, low-impact exercise class led by an exercise physiologist from Siskin Therapy Services with Erlanger. No registration is necessary. Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at 778-LINK (5465) for information.

Bariatric Support Group 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Chattanooga Lifestyle Center
Bariatric Support Group meetings are for individuals scheduled to have Bariatric surgery or who have already had weight loss surgery.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at 778-LINK (5465) to register.

Surgical Weight Management Seminar 6-8 p.m.
Chattanooga Lifestyle Center
Area residents 100 or more pounds overweight and /or with health problems related to obesity are invited to learn more about The Weight Loss Program at Erlanger.  It is a free seminar and registration is required.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at 778-LINK (5465) to register.

Tuesday, Feb. 21
Adaptive Tai Ji (Tai Chi) 10-11 a.m.

Tai-Ji (Tai Chi) is a great form of exercise, especially for those with osteoarthritis. It can help you build leg muscles, strengthen posture, and improve balance, flexibility, and mobility. Take advantage of this free class and learn such basic skills as breathing techniques, visualization and body posture.  No registration is necessary. Healthlink Plus free membership is required. Water Aerobics Class 10-11 a.m.

Join us for a free exercise class conducted in a swimming pool to help support the joints and encourage free movement.  Aquatic exercise also allows you to work out without the jarring and jolting that can be experienced during land exercising.  No registration is necessary.  Class is available on a first come/first serve basis.  Healthlink Plus free membership is required. Wednesday, Feb. 22

Core Training Class 10-11 a.m.

The body's core muscles, lying deep within the torso, are the foundation for all movement.  They stabilize the spine and provide a solid foundation for movement in the extremities.   This free class will introduce several exercises that are the building blocks for core muscle strength and coordination.  Training the muscles of the core corrects postural imbalances that can lead to injuries and help develop functional fitness - that is, fitness that is essential to both daily living and regular activities.   Healthlink Plus free membership is required. Teen Killed When Thrown From Hood Of Car At Old Kmart On Signal Mountain Road

A 17-year-old was killed Sunday night when he was thrown from the hood of a vehicle at the old Kmart on Signal Mountain Road.
