Students will sit down for “A Conversation on Racial Struggle in Chattanooga” in the UTC Benwood Auditorium (EMCS 230) at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Progressive Student Alliance will be sponsoring the event, which is intended to open public discussion about growing racial challenges facing Chattanooga citizens.
Students will discuss issues ranging from lack of public housing and gang violence to racial profiling and growing food insecurity. Organizers said, "Our university must have a solid basis for informed discussion on these matters."
To this end, the PSA has assembled two distinguished speakers who will present different perspectives and backgrounds on these topics. Speakers include: Chattanooga Historian Raymond Evans and Civil Rights Activist Maxine Cousin. The speakers will offer their views on the history of racial struggle in Chattanooga for all members of the community.
In an effort to connect students with real people and real problems in their community, the Progressive Student Alliance will continue to provide students with the means to voice their opinion and make a difference.
This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by PSA.
The Progressive Student Alliance on UTC campus works actively to spark awareness of a growing list of obstacles facing university students locally and nationally. The PSA is an alliance of student organizers whose goal it is to inform and educate the student body in order to coordinate a strong, unified voice against social injustice affecting students in our community and nation.
