ACT-SO Orientation Is Saturday

The next orientation for ACT-SO will happen at Center for the Arts, 1301 Dallas Road, on Saturday.   African American youth between the ages of 12-18 years, potential judges, volunteers and all interested parties are invited to the orientation at 10:30 a.m.  

ACT-SO is an acronym for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics.  First place winners compete in national competition which will happen in Houston, Texas, this coming July.   All travel expenses are covered by the Chattanooga Hamilton County NAACP.  Second and third place winners receive cash and other prizes.  The competition is free.

Hotel Planned At South End Of The Walnut Street Bridge

Vision Hospitality is making plans to erect a Fairfield Inn by Marriot at the south end of the Walnut Street Bridge.  The Chattanooga-based hotel group wants to build the hotel at the current site of an office building that formerly housed several dentists. Teen Killed When Thrown From Hood Of Car At Old Kmart On Signal Mountain Road

A 17-year-old was killed Sunday night when he was thrown from the hood of a vehicle at the old Kmart on Signal Mountain Road. At 8:34 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to 680 Signal Mountain Road where they found the teen suffering from head trauma. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.  Traffic investigators said ...
