Georgia Northwestern Technical College held a “Diaper Drive” to benefit agencies across the region. Pam Turner’s Social Work Assistant program on the Walker County Campus of GNTC coordinated the benefit.
“My student, Kristina (Talley), had to visit area social service agencies,” said Ms. Turner. “She immediately saw a need of many who needed diapers badly for their children. So, she and her classmates organized the drive.”
Students held the drive on Feb. 1, on the Walker County Campus of the college. The drive took place outside of the LaFayette, Georgia Wal-Mart, on Feb. 4, as well.
“We just wanted to do something to help,” said Ms. Talley. “The Pregnancy Crisis Center, The LaFayette Care Mission, and the Choices Pregnancy Center in Chattanooga were among those who we were able to help.”
Dozens of packages of diaper deliveries were made and delivered to area agencies. Ms. Turner said it was all a part of what she calls a process of macro social work. “The students learn the best way to help an individual is to help the community."
Georgia Northwestern offers more than 200 programs on five campuses, as well as online. More than 10,000 students are educated by the region’s largest college each year. Georgia Northwestern is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
