Lady Flames Tennis Blanks Bethel; Men Win

The Lady Flames Tennis team moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 9-0 blanking of Bethel University (0-1) Friday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center.

Tonya Walters and Kelsey Gray teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles spot, 8-0, over Dasha Klyuyenko and Allison Adcock.

At No. 2 doubles, Tarah Garner and Annie Sandberg beat Michella Douglas and Connie Oliver, 8-1. Stephanie Todd and Christy North concluded the doubles sweep with an 8-0 defeat of Jerrica Corley and Krisani Boyd.

All six of the Lady Flames singles competitors won in straight sets.

Walters took down Klyuyenko, 6-1 and 6-1. Gray was a winner (6-2, 6-2) over Douglas.

Garner, Sandberg and Jodie Rice each dropped just one game in their singles matches. Todd defeated Boyd (6-1, 6-2) in the No. 5 singles spot.

The Lady Flames hit the road for the first time with a trip to Jefferson City, Tn., to take on Carson-Newman College. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

The Lee Flames tennis team picked up its first win of the season and improved to 1-1 on the young season with a 7-2 takedown of Bethel University (0-1) Friday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center.

Lee held a 2-1 advantage following the doubles portion of the match. Patrick Kim teamed with Renan Molineiro to win the No. 2 doubles match over Paolo Vecchi and Eduardo Espinar, 8-3.

Kevin Tan and Flavio Costa were 8-5 winners over Travis Hyman and Raphael Sousa. Peter Baca and Kristian Takac gave the Wildcats an 8-5 doubles win over Michael Yokosuk and Richard Gamble.

Baca would continue his success for Bethel with a win at No. 1 singles over Yokosuk (6-2, 6-4). Lee would go on to win the final five singles matches in straight sets.

Gamble defeated Vecchi, 6-4 and 6-2, while Molineiro outlasted Hyman (6-3, 6-4). Costa won his first set against Espinar 6-3 and picked up the walkover win while leading 3-2 in the second set.

Kim and Fabio Medina each won their matches by the score of 6-2 and 6-1. Kim defeated Takac and Medina beat Sousa.
