We’ve found a new place that we really like!  Meo Mio’s Cajun & Seafood Restaurant at 4119 Cummings Highway (the old Patrick’s location).

We were greeted at the door as if we were arriving for a party.  The friendly hostess was distributing Mardi Gras beads to all the “party guests” (customers).  Décor is very cheerful and eye catching.  On one wall there is a huge bust of Louis Armstrong, along with a giant trumpet.

While we cannot vouch for the authenticity of the Cajun food, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

I’ll leave the final ruling to one of our forum members – our resident Cajun!!

I wanted to try several appetizers, but, alas, we had to narrow it down to just one.  We finally decided on Gator Tail Bites with Remoulade sauce ($8.49).  My second choice was Crawfish Tails ($7.49).  That will be for our next visit – and I’m certain there will be one.  They also offer Oysters on the Half Shell ($8.99 ½ dozen).  Another item I want to try in the future is the Gumbo Supreme (featuring chicken, shrimp, crawfish, and Andouille sausage) ($5.99/cup; $12.99/bowl).

There was so much to choose from!  I knew I wanted oysters, so the only “bucket” for me was the Canal Street Bucket ($21.99).  It included crab legs, boiled shrimp and fried oysters.  What I really wanted were the crab legs, fried oysters and Cajun catfish – but they wouldn’t let me switch the boiled shrimp for the catfish.  Oh well, on another visit. . .

Wayne narrowed his selections down to two and the server helped with his final choice.  He ordered the Boudin ($13.99).  Both meals were served with corn on the cob, cole slaw, red potatoes and a garlic bread stick.

The crab legs were quite large with plenty of meat and I can’t complain about the shrimp.  I was disappointed there were only three oysters.  Even though they were fairly large, I would have liked more.  The oysters were very good, not at all chewy, and perfectly crisp on the outside.  I would be tempted to order just an oyster plate next time (I hope it’s more than three).

Wayne’s Boudin was terrific.  He thought it was so good, he offered me a slice.  Yep, that is something I would definitely order; made with pork, rice and Cajun spices, it was delicious.  The plate is served with two, so I enjoyed the second one the next day.

The restaurant was absolutely packed except for a few empty tables upstairs.  I really hope they are successful because I like the food and the concept.  At the far end is a gigantic television screen, as well as a small stage area, and dance floor.  I really don’t need all that – just the background music and the food would keep me happy.  Meo Mio’s has a full bar, as well as a private room.  I noticed the servers in that room were wearing masks and/or “headdresses” in Mardi Gras fashion.  Such a fun atmosphere.

Other items on the menu include Jambalaya, Red Beans and Rice, Rib Eyes, Pastas, Po’ Boys and sandwiches.  I did not see Etouffee on the menu.  Desserts offered include New Orleans Style Bread Pudding, Bourbon Balls, and Mini Beignets, just to name a few.

Hours for Meo Mio’s are Thursday and Friday, 4 p.m. until 11 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. until 11 p.m.; and Monday, 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.  They are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
