Sheriff's detectives have lodged more charges against a man who was arrested Wednesday for break-ins in the Middle Valley area.

Jimmie Dean Roy, 31, who has an extensive record for thefts, was initially charged with theft over $500, possession of burglary tools and possession of marijuana. The new charges are eight counts of burglary of an auto,  seven counts of theft under $500,  one count of theft over $500,  one count of theft over $1,000, and  one count of theft over $10,000.

Roy was taken into custody after the sheriff's office put on extra manpower to try to find the culprit in a rash of burglaries.. The officers were assigned to cover an area involving Coffelt, Moses and Gates roads.

Authorities said, "This was due to an increase in reported vehicle burglaries and other thefts occurring in this area."

The saturation of manpower began on Sunday. At approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday, detectives took Roy into custody after finding him in possession of a stolen bicycle.

As the investigation continued, detectives obtained a search warrant for Roy’s residence at 7411 Harper Road in Hixson. There they recovered a large amount of stolen property.

Authorities said, "This recovered property was found to have been stolen from the reported thefts and vehicle burglaries reported in the target area."

Roy was declared an habitual traffic offender in 2002.

He was first convicted on burglary charges involving a break-in at Don's Auto Salvage in 2005 and was given a suspended sentence.

Roy got a suspended sentence in 2009 after pleading guilty in the courtroom of Criminal Court Judge Don Poole to theft of property and resisting arrest.

He was back before Judge Poole in November 2010 on four counts of burglary of an auto, five counts of theft of property, evading arrest, possession of burglary tools and possession of marijuana. He got 11 months and 29 days to serve in the workhouse along with a two-year suspended sentence. Workhouse sentences are served with two days of credit for each day served.
