QR Illicito Named Most Innovative Product Of 2011

Bike Wins Triathlon America Award

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

American Bicycle Group and the Quintana Roo design team have accepted Triathlon America’s Most Innovative Product Award on behalf of their triathlon-specific bicycle, the Illicito. The award was presented Monday night at the annual Triathlon America Conference in San Diego, surrounded by an audience of industry leaders.

Quintana Roo’s Illicito has been recognized for its combination of aerodynamic design features, which include SHIFT technology developed on the company’s CD0.1 model, itself a winner of the EuroBike Design Award. Most noticeable, though, is the Illicito's obvious and eye-catching lack of a non-drive side seat stay, a feature designed to further extend the advantages of having redirected airflow to the non-drive side of the bike frame. Unlike UCI-certified road bikes designed for pro tour cycling teams and later adapted for the triathlon market, the Illicito's feature set was designed from the ground up with the triathlon experience in mind.

“This award is hugely gratifying,” said Peter Hurley, CEO of American Bicycle Group. “We are a group of triathletes working on a brand dedicated to the sport of triathlon.  It's a validation of the commitment we've made to innovate from the wind tunnel, of course, but also from direct feedback from our dealers, pros, age-groupers, and our personal race-day experience.”

From 2008-2012, QR has seen an increase in both domestic and international dealer coverage and year-to-year sales figures.

“As we attend and compete in races around the world, we hear the same thing over and over: triathletes are ready for bikes designed by triathletes and sensitive of the intricacies of this sport.  QR has that history stretching back over 20 years and we are eager to show our capabilities for the next 20.” QR has launched a microsite dedicated to the Illicito at Illicito.com.

Quintana Roo, founded in 1987, produces triathlon equipment. The company was the first to create triathlon-specific bicycle and wetsuit designs. Quintana Roo is owned by American Bicycle Group, located in Chattanooga.
